Välimeren risteily osa 6: Viihde/ Mediterranean cruise part 6: Entertainment

Hi and regards from Hämeenlinna! I’d also like to apologise for the slight blog- silence, my internship has kept me quite busy but now it’s time to get back to writing it. There will be a separate story coming about Hämeenlinna later but now I’ll tell you about the entertainment on the cruise.

There were plenty of it there and here’s the best bits from it. Daily we got a cruise program brought to us, called the Cruise Compass. It was at least four times bigger than the ones of Tallink silja or Viking line. It also had info on the next destination, the weather and the opening times for the restaurants as well as their offers.

Yksi parhaista ohjelmista oli Coral Theatren esitys from Broadway to London.
Harmi, odotin parempia uintimahdollisuuksia.

There was something happening on board 24/7. There were activities for daytime, afternoon, evening and night, they even had a night disco. There were options from films and theatre to quizzes and music. One of the best programs was from Broadway to London by Coral Theatre. Actually, it was a medley, which had bits from different musicals. There was no half time serving but I had one Pina Colada during the performance. The music quizzes and bands were also great. I also took part in an art auction, where we had a glass of champagne and Tuula bought two paintings. I didn’t try the spa this time, as the treatments were quite expensive. The ship also had a movie theatre and they showed films on a pool as well. The pool was only a chill out pool and thus it was too small for swimming and the chlorinated sea water stung the eyes. Such a shame, I expected to have better swimming opportunities.

Välillä oli kivaa vain oleskella ulkokannella./
At times it was fun to chill out at the outside deck

Loppuun vielä kuva A la Carte -ravintolan esityksestä.
Here's a picture of the performance at the a la carte restaurant.

Aina ei tarvitse mennä kauas/ Going far isn't always necessary

Juttelin äitini kanssa vähän aikaa sitten kotimaan matkailusta. - Suomessakin on vaikka mitä kivoja kohteita, hän sanoi. - Se vaan tahtoo välillä unohtua sultakin.
Tottahan tuo on.

A while ago I spoke with my mum about national traveling. - There are plenty of nice destinations in Finland too, she said. - You just tend to forget it at times.
That's true. Sometimes, I'm looking forward to my new trip abroad that it's easy to forget. It's such a shame. There's a lot of potential for growth in national traveling, if we changed our attitude. A week ago in travel chat about World Heritage Sites. In Finland they include Old Rauma, which many have praised, I'd like to go there in the summertime, and pop into a cafe, as well as Suomenlinna. I could go to The Finnish Nature Center Haltia for a May Day lunch and get to know the place otherwise too. http://www.haltia.com/en/haltia-the-finnish-nature-centre/
I got interested in Rovaniemi as well thanks to pictures in Palmuasema, of reindeer rides and ice fishing. I could also revisit Arktikum, Lapland's Heureka.

Ollessani Kotkassa aina huomaan, kuinka paljon kivoja nähtävyyksiä siellä on. Kerran katsoin Kotkan matkailuesitettä haltioissani. Ystäväni isä kysyi:
- Mikä sua siinä noin kovasti kiinnostaa? - Täällähän on vaikka mitä, sanoin ja luettelin nähtävyyksiä.
 Hänen vaatimattomuudensa harmitti minua.
Niistä voit lukea lisää esim. aiemmasta jutustani Kotkan  parhaat nähtävyydet.

With these examples I want to demonstrate that you don't always have far and thus I wonder why national traveling is so underappreciated. When ever I'm in Kotka I realize how many nice places to see there are. Ones I was enthusiastically browsing the travel brochure of Kotka, my friend's dad asked: What's so interesting? - There's plenty to see here, I said and started listing all the sites, of which you can get more info from my earlier post titled The tourist attractions in Kotka. His undermining saddened me.

Myös lentosimulaattori josta viimeksi kerroin, löytyy vartin ajomatkan päästä kotoani.
The flight simulator that i mentioned before is also located fifteen minutes away by car.

Matkojen rahoituksesta/ About financing my trips

Yhtenä aamuna avustaja kysyi aamutoimia tehdessämme, miten sulla rahat riittää reissaamiseen?
- Mä oon usein ihmetelly sitä, hän tunnusti.

While doing my morning routines, one morning my assistant asked me how I can afford my traveling?
- I've often wondered that, she confessed.

So, that's going to be my topic this time, for all those who are wondering. The fact is that most of my income consists of benefits, most summers I've had a part-time summer job, which have been paid labor. I've got two bank accounts, a current one and a savings one. A certain amount of money goes monthly into the savings account, as well as part of my salaries, the money I got for Christmas and my tax returns. I'm capable of doing part-time work, which helps me in gathering my traveling funds. My parents and relatives also give me money on my red letter days and sometimes otherwise as well. Thanks for that! I've been real lucky in that way.

Kokkaan paljon kotona. Käyn aika harvoin ulkona syömässä, baareissa vielä harvemmin. Lehtitilauksia olen karsinut, enkä vastaa tuntemattomiin puhelinnumeroihin. Skypen käyttö ja facebook pienentävät puhelinlaskua. Yksi avustajistani on leikannut välillä tukkani ilmaiseksi. Jos menen parturiin, suosin opiskelijatöitä. Hyödynnän opiskelija-alennuksia mahdollisimman paljon.
Joskus olen saanut ilmaisia elokuvalippuja toimimalla kokemusasiantuntijana vammaani liittyen, kerran sain ilmaisen risteilylahjakortinkin. Kuulun Tallink siljan Club one -kanta-asiakasohjelmaan, saan bonuspisteilla halvempia risteilyjä ja joskus alennuksia ruokailuista laivalla.

I cook a lot at home. I rarely go out to eat, to bars even more rarely. I've been cutting down on magazine subscriptions and I don't answer to unknown numbers. Using Skype and Facebook reduce my phone bill. One of my assistants has sometimes cut my hair for free. If I go to a hairdressers, I use students. I also take advantage of student discounts as much as I can. Sometimes I've received movie tickets by acting as an experience expert in terms of my disability. Ones I got a free cruise voucher as well. I'm a member of the Tallink silja Club one loyalty program, with my bonus points I can get cheaper cruises and at times discounts on dining on the boat.

Here are some of my tips. I can honestly say that I don't have enough money to all the trips, that I'd like to do. The bad thing about traveling is that it is so expensive as well as that you get hooked to it. According to a test by Tjäreborg, the activity of my travel gene is 86 %, which is easy to tell! I constantly feel like going.

The more you do something, the more you want to continue doing it. Besides the Mediterranean cruise, I'd like to go somewhere warm in November but Tenerife isn't cheap either.

Ensi vuonna haluisin kokeilla pitkää lentoa, esim. New Yorkiin. Lento Helsingistä sinne kestää reilut kahdeksan tuntia, puolitoista pidempään kuin Teneriffalle. Thaimaakin kiinnostaisi, kiitos Palmuaseman. Samasta syystä myös Australia on alkanut houkuttamaan uudelleen.

Next year I'd like to try out a long flight, to New York for example. The flight there from Helsinki takes bit over eight hours, which is 1,5h longer than to Tenerife. Thanks to Palmuasema I'm also interested in Thailand. For the same reason my interest in Australia has resurfaced.
