Risteily lähestyy../ Cruise approaching ...

Moi, taas on viikko vierähtänyt nopeasti, kohta on kesäkuu. Ja sääkin vaikuttaa jo kesäiseltä ainakin Lauttasaaressa. Lähden ystäväni Mervin ja hänen ystäviensä kanssa risteilylle Tukholmaan 4-6.6.
Aiomme samalla juhlia Mervin synttäreitä, kivaa! Nyt tämä risteily vihdoinkin toteutuu, olemme puhuneet siitä jo pari vuotta ainakin!

Hi, The week has quickly gone by, it'll be June soon and even the weather seems sunny already at least here in Lauttasaari. I'm going on a Stockholm cruise with my friend Mervi and her friends. We're going to celebrate Mervi's birthday while we're there. I'm so happy this cruise is finally happening as we've been talking about it for at least two years! 

Itse aion syödä italialaisessa ravintolassa, tanssia ja laulaa karaokea. Tukholmassa käymme varmaan Abba-museossa. Shoppailu jää nyt vähän vähemmälle, koska täytyy säästää rahaa marraskuulle. Hyvät lukijani, onko teistä kukaan käynyt siellä? Kuulisin mielelläni kokemuksianne. Ja voitte antaa vinkkejä, mistä haluaisitte lukea täältä blogista, mikä teitä kiinnostaa? Jos teillä on mielessä hyviä esteettömiä kotimaan matkakohteita, kertokaa niistäkin.

I'm planning to dine at an Italian restaurant, dance and sing karaoke there. I think we're also going to go to the Abba-museum but there wont be much shopping this time cause I have to save up for November. Dear readers, have anyone visited in Stockholm? I'd love to hear your experiences. Feel free to give tips about what you'd like to read about in this blog and about what interest you? If you know of some good accessible travel destinations, please share those too.

  Jatketaan vielä haaveilua, Agatha Christien Englanti kiinnostaisi ja Sherlock Holmes-museo Lontoossa, harmi etteivät ole esteettömiä, kysyin matkatoimiston virkailijalta.

 

Let's continue dreaming for a bit, I'd be interested in the Agatha Christie Guided Tours in Devon and  the Sherlock Holmes Museum in London but unfortunately they're not accessible, I've asked from a travel agent.    

Myös iltapäivätee Lontoossa kiinnostaisi, ehkä joskus, olen innokas teenjuoja ja  netin kuvat iltapäiväteestä herkkuineen näyttävät houkuttelevilta.

Also the afternoon tee in London would be of interest, maybe I'll get to go someday, I'm an avid tee drinker and the pictures of it with all its delicacies look very tempting.

 Ihana jätskibaari Teneriffalla. Kuten kuvasta näkyy, on pähkinäjäätelöä,  marenkijäätelöä, hedelmäisiä jäätelöitä, käynköhän tuolla marraskuun-reissullani?

Saapa nähdä! Tekis kyllä mieli, reissu kestää 10 päivää, joten eiköhän siinä ehdi,

  useemmankin kerran! LoroPark-eläinpuisto ja Mar y sol-hotellin vieressä sijaitsevan Teralava-keskuksen hoidot ja hieronnat kiinnostavat myös!

A lovely ice cream bar in Tenerife. As you can see there's nut, meringue and different fruity ice-creams available. I wonder if I'm going to visit there on November? We shall see! I'd definitely  like to and the trip lasts for 10 days so I'd ought to have enough time for several visits! The LoroPark-animal park interest me as well, along with the treatments and massages at the Teralava center next to the Mar y sol-hotel.

 loppuvuodesta 40 ja haluaisin lähteä hänen kanssaan tuolle risteilylle, idean ja inspiraation sain Palmuasemalta, kiitos Sanna!

After the trip to Tenerife I'll start saving for a cruise at the Caribbean, a friend of mine turns 40 at the end of the year and I'd like to go with them to that cruise. I got the inspiration and idea from Palmuasema, thanks Sanna!

One day I'd like to return to Tuscany where I visited last summer. Delicious food, warmth, light, beautiful scenery...

  Sanna! Oli sopivasti ohjelmaa, myös uintia ja rentoa meininkiä.
  Kävimme myös upeilla retkillä Firenzessä ja Sienassa!

It was a an accessible trip arranged by matka-agentit, my friend Sanna was our tour leader! the trip consisted of some arranged program, swimming and relaxed chilling in a right proportion. We also went on fantastic excursions to Florence and Sienna!    www.matka-agentit.fi

Marraskuussa palaan Teneriffalle, se on ihana paikka paeta marraskuun kaamosta ja pimeyttä, ihanaa aurinkoa ja lämpöä!

Moi taas!/ Hi again!

Moikka!  Anteeksi hiljaiselo, on ollut kiirettä kouluhommien kanssa ja vipinää muutenkin!
Nyt kuitenkin kirjotan taas, vielä vähän asiaa Himoksesta ja sitten kevättä ja kesää kohti..

Hi everyone! Apologies for not writing in a while, I've been busy with school and otherwise too! Now I'm back at it  again however. Few more stories from Himos and then towards spring and summer..

          Ruokailut Himoksella/ Dining at Himos

Himoksen rinneravintolaa vastapäätä on pieni Himosmarket, josta ostimme pitsaa ja aamupalatarvikkeet. Rinneravintolan buffetista saa hyvää perusruokaa, pizzoja, salaatteja, lihapullia, kanansiipiä, nakkeja yms. Itse en laskettelureissulleni gourmet-ravintolaa tai -ruokaa kaipaakaan, tärkeintä on laskettelu. Lämmin kaakao ja tee on tietysti aivan pakollinen juttu. Pitkän ulkoilun jälkeen ruoka kyllä maistuu..

There's a small store opposite the restaurant, we bought pizza and other supplies for breakfast. Basic food, salads, meatballs, chicken wings, sausages etc can also be found from the buffet of the restaurant. Personally I don't need a gourmet restaurant or food, while I'm on the hills, the downhill skiing is the most important for me, though hot chocolate and tee is a 'must have' though. After a long day out food is delicious indeed..    

Himoksen rinneravintola on vähän hankala sähkärille, kun ovi aukeaa väärään suuntaan. Invavessa on henkilökunnan taukotilojen yhteydessä.

The restaurant itself is a bit complicated for a electric wheelchair because the door opens to the wrong direction. The accessible toilet is en suite with the personnel areas

                        Suhteeni lumeen on ristiriitainen, toisaalta ärsyynnyn, kun sähkäri jää lumeen kiinni,  
                        laskettelusta kuitenkin nautin tosi paljon..

My relationship with snow is conflicted, on the other hand I get annoyed when I get stuck to it with my wheelchair but on the other hand I really enjoy downhill skiing..

However, now it's time to gaze towards the summer and the up coming Stockholm cruise with a friend, which will be on the 4th till 6th of June. I can't wait!

Majoitus järjestelyt Himoksella/ accommodation in Himos

Matka Helsingistä Jämsään on niin pitkä, ettei sitä kannata päiväreissuna tehdä. Siksi aloin jo hyvissä ajoin miettimään majoitusta. Ajattelin ensin yöpyä kummeillani Jyväskylässä, mutta päädyin kuitenkin siihen, että haluan yöpyä lähempänä.  Olin myös aikaisemmin ollut laskettelemassa Himoksella. Silloin yövyin kaupunkihotelli Jämsän ukossa.

The trip from Helsinki to Himos is long that it wouldn't have made sense to travel back and forth.that's why I started considering accommodation well in advance. First I thought I could stay with relatives in Jyväskylä but then I decided I want stay somewhere closer. During my previous visit I had stayed at hotel Jämsän Ukko.

Harmikseni se oli lopettanut toimintansa ja jouduin miettimään muita vaihtoehtoja.Tiesin, että Himoksella ei ole tunnettuja ketjuhotelleja, joten mikä neuvoksi? Laitoin aiheesta sähköpostia  jo joulukuussa.

Unfortunately they had gone out of business so I had to come up with something else. I knew that there isn't any widely known hotels in Jämsä, so what now? I emailed the himoslomat inc. about the situation in December.

Ensin sain automaattisen viestin, että palaamme myöhemmin asiaan. Ennen vuodenvaihdetta sain vastauksen viestiini ja minulle kerrottiin, että Sinirinne-mökissä on yöpynyt pyörätuolin käyttäjiä aikaisemminkin.  Kysyin, oliko heillä ollut apuvälineenä pyörätuoli vai sähköpyörätuoli? Virkailija ei osannut vastata. Hänen käsityksensä oli se, että mökin omistaja oli itsekin pyörätuolissa, joten uskoin pärjääväni sähköpyörätuolin kanssa. Olin innoissani.  Tiesin, että esteettömän mökin löytäminen Suomen hiihtokeskuksista on harvinaista. Valitettavasti minulla ei ole omia kuvia mökistä, niitä löytyy osoitteesta

First I received an automatic response which said they'd get back to me on the matter. Before the turn of the year,  they responded that they had had wheelchair users staying at the Sinirinne cottage before. I asked whether they used a manual wheelchair or an electric one but the clerk didn't know. She was under the impression that the owner of the cottage used a wheelchair themselves so I figured I'd manage with mine. I was excited, as I knew finding an accessible cottage from a Finnish ski resort is very rare. Unfortunately I don't have own photos of the cottage but you can find them from the  addresses below.

Totuus paljastui kun saavuimme mökille. Mökin rapun alta löysimme pienet, huterat irtorampit. Ne olivat ihan riittävät lastenrattaille tai kevyelle manuaalipyörätuolille. Isolle sähköpyörätuolille ne eivät olleet turvalliset. Kun ei muutakaan ollut, minkäs teit. Sisääntullessa oli iso kynnys, siitä kuitenkin selvittiin. Vessoja oli kolme, ne olivat aivan liian ahtaita eikä seinissä ollut kaiteita. Avustaja sai minut siirrettyä pöntölle siirtymäapuvälineen avulla. Pois tullessa tuli ongelmia. Tilanahtauden vuoksi avustaja ei pystynyt laittamaan apuvälinettä tarpeeksi lähelle sähköpyörätuolia, -jolloin jäin liian reunalle ja lopun voitte itse päätellä.. Onneksi yksi leiriohjaaja  tuli auttamaan meitä. Illalla laitoimme pitsan uuniin ja huomasimme, että puolet astioista oli tiskikoneessa likaisina.  Ja kolmesta makuuhuoneesta kaksi oli kylmiä! Törkeää!

The truth of the matter was revealed when we arrived to the cottage. We found small shaky ramps from under the steps.They were suitable for a pram or a light manual wheelchair but they weren't save for a big electric wheelchair. As there was nothing else to use what can you do. There was a high step on the doorway but we managed to get over it. There where three toilets but they were way too narrow and there were no railings on the walls. My assistant managed to transfer me to the toilet with a help of the Turner-transfer aid but on the way back we had some problems. Due to the narrowness of the toilet my assistant couldn't place the Turner close enough to my wheelchair and I was too close to the edge and you can guess the result... luckily one of the instructors came to help us. In the evening we decided to have some pizza and as we put one in the oven, we noticed that half of the dishes were dirty in the dishwasher and two of the three bedrooms were unheated! How rude!        

Maksoin kahden vuorokauden majoituksesta yli 300 euroa.  Kyllä sillä hinnalla pitäisi jo saada puhtaat astiat ja kunnon palvelua muutenkin. Jokaisessa Suomen hiihtokeskuksessa pitäisi olla ainakin yksi esteetön mökki, tekisin mielelläni yhteistyötä Suomen hiihtokeskusyhdistyksen kanssa asian korjaamiseksi.

Kyllä joka hiihtokeskuksessa pitäisi olla ainakin yksi esteetön mökki. Se toisi varmasti lisää asiakkaita.

I paid over 300 euros for accommodation on the weekend. With a price like that I'd expect to get clean dishes and better service in general. In my opinion there should be at least one accessible cottage in each of the ski resorts in Finland. I'm sure it would bring more clients for them. I'd be prepared to co-operate with the Finnish ski area association to fix this situation.        

p.s. kiitän sukulaisiani ja vanhempiani rahoitusavusta, laskettelu on niin kallis harrastus. Olette parhaita! Kustannuksista kerron tarkemmin myöhemmin.

 p.s. I want to thank my relatives and parents for the financial help as downhill skiing is such an expensive hobby. You're the best! I'll tell more about the costs in a later post.
